Liverpool Chase Mexican Talent Gilberto Mora
Liverpool are making a strong move to sign 17-year-old Mexican midfielder Gilberto Mora from Club Tijuana, according to reports. The Reds have contacted Mora’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, as they look to secure a pre-agreement that would see him move to Anfield next year after he turns 18.
Why Premier League Giants Continue to Battle for Mora
The interest in Mora is not limited to Liverpool alone. Manchester United were among the first European clubs to express serious interest, and Arsenal have been closely monitoring his progress through an extensive scouting programme. However, it was Liverpool who made the first direct contact with Mora’s camp.
Mora's performances at the World Cup and his rapid development have increased his value significantly. Tijuana now values him at around €25 million and has protected themselves by implementing a structured release clause to ensure they receive maximum compensation if one of Europe's top clubs makes an offer.
Liverpool see in Mora the attributes needed to thrive under Andoni Iraola’s attacking system. Capable of playing as a traditional number ten or drifting into wide attacking areas, he offers creativity, close control, and an eye for a decisive pass. These qualities could make him an excellent long-term option alongside Florian Wirtz while also providing additional depth on either flank.
Arsenal reportedly view Mora as a player who could eventually challenge Martin Odegaard for the creative midfield role, while Manchester United consider him a potential long-term successor to Bruno Fernandes. Although each club can offer Mora the chance to develop alongside elite players in highly competitive environments, none can guarantee immediate first-team football. That factor may play a significant role when the teenager decides his future.
Mora has already shown his potential with seven goal involvements in 20 appearances last season despite injury setbacks, and he has scored in the new campaign as well. He is certainly a generational talent, and the interest from top clubs is quite understandable.
