The second half was dominated by CJ dos Santos' remarkable reflexes. In the 58th minute, the goalkeeper stretched out to block Yael Padilla's powerful shot from outside the box. Two minutes later, dos Santos made another diving save to thwart Ignacio Rivero's direct attempt.
Dos Santos' crucial saves and Xolos' lack of precision in their shots kept the score at zero. The winning goal came in the 23rd minute when Alejandro Alvarado intercepted a Mora pass and scored.
‘It was an average to above-average game,’ coach Mikey Varas said about dos Santos. ‘What we’re looking for in goal is someone who can make us more complete in our build-up.’
Mora, who made three appearances with the Mexican national team during the FIFA World Cup, had a mature performance and demonstrated his worth. Although he tired late in the game, Varas recognized that Alvarado took an opportunity and left no doubt to the fans that he could be a key player.
Alvarado's goal was the only one of the match, though Xolos had their chance to equalize. In the 115th second of stoppage time, Anders Dreyer capitalized on an individual play that resulted in a penalty not awarded due to his offside position.
The game was marked by physical moments and tensions between players. Just before halftime, Jackson Porozo received a yellow card for protesting an official's decision, which led to a heated exchange with Marcus Ingvartsen, who had been lying on the ground during the action.
Despite missed opportunities and tense moments, SDFC secured victory with solid defensive play and a well-executed goal.
