Club Tijuana has received a $50 million offer for striker Gilberto Mora, according to confirmation from sports commentator David Faitelson. The bid, communicated by the player's Brazilian representative Rafaela Pimenta, arrives amid intense European interest just days before Mora turns 18.
Faitelson revealed the news during an appearance on Tercer Grado Deportivo. "They tell me in Tijuana that they received, from Gilberto Mora's representative, who is Brazilian, named Rafaela Pimenta," the analyst stated. The mentioned figure, approximately $52.86 million at current exchange rates, aligns with reports that Liverpool was preparing a £40 million offer, which would be the minimum demanded by the Mexican club for a departure next summer.
Speculation intensified following Mora's omission from the latest Mexico national team squad. Manager Rafael Márquez cited physical discomfort as the reason, though he also requested the club provide a detailed explanation of the player's condition. Faitelson directly linked this absence to the potential transfer. "For me, the fact that Mora didn't play on Saturday is an indication that, and I celebrate it, I applaud it, is an indication that the operation is moving forward, it is bearing fruit," he said.
Liverpool's interest in Mora is not new, with the English club having tracked him for several seasons. However, the 17-year-old forward is understood to prefer a move to Spain, where Real Madrid and Barcelona have also shown interest. Other major European leagues are in the mix, with clubs including Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United, PSG, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Ajax, and Napoli closely monitoring his situation.
FIFA regulations only permit international transfers for players under 18 under very specific circumstances, so many clubs are waiting to formalize a deal once Mora reaches adulthood on October 14. Any definitive move, however, will have to wait until the opening of the European winter transfer window in January 2027.
Club Tijuana has prepared for this scenario. Days before the start of the 2026 World Cup, the club extended Mora's contract by three more years, until 2029. This new agreement includes a highly personalized and structured exit mechanism, designed to maximize the financial return for the border club.
While the player's future is decided, the team must focus on the domestic competition. Club Tijuana sits eighth in Liga MX with 14 points after nine matchdays, six points behind leaders Toluca. Their next fixture is a visit to bottom-placed FC Juarez on October 10. Mora, the team's top scorer with five goals in seven appearances this season, would be a significant loss if his departure is finalized. Neither Liverpool nor Club Tijuana have made official statements confirming the offer or negotiations. An important announcement is expected within the next eight days.
