Delayed Start

The Liga MX Matchday 5 game between Chivas and Tijuana, scheduled for 17:05 at Estadio AKRON in Guadalajara, was affected by a heavy storm that began at 16:30. The rain, accompanied by wind, caused puddles along the sidelines and forced the Liga MX to postpone the match.

First 10 Minutes of Delay

At 17:05, the Mexican National Anthem was played and Liga MX advertising elements were placed. However, the rain intensified and the local sound system announced a 10‑minute delay. Fans began leaving their seats in search of shelter.

15 Minutes More and a Waterlogged Pitch

At 17:20, a second 15‑minute delay was announced. At 17:42, the field was completely waterlogged, especially near the sidelines. The referee staff and the Liga MX delegate monitored the situation.

Drainage and Condition Improvement

The drainage system began working at 18:00. Over roughly 40 minutes, the pitch improved significantly and returned to favorable conditions. At 18:45, the referee staff and the Liga MX delegate carried out a final inspection.

New Start Time

After the review and a conversation with Javier Mier, Guadalajara’s sporting director, it was agreed that the match would be played at 19:30. Thus, Chivas and Tijuana will have to wait just over two hours from the original scheduled time.
